Lovely independent cafe which I highly recommend. Good choice for coeliac / gluten free customers with plenty of GF alternatives. Special mention for the care and attention to detail of those who served me.

This is an updated review of Shanicatti, having visited multiple times since my original one. It remains our go to cafe, for drinks and gluten free food, which remains delicious. Penny and the team keep the place ticking over nicely, and are polite and helpful; they go out of their way to make sure that I have gluten free options, including going to local shops, to get things they don’t have, like extra bread, or GF wraps. Food As a Coeliac, who is highly sensitive to gluten, I have to be careful where I eat, and of course, what I eat. At Shanicatti, I am able to get a variety of food, from gluten free cake (which includes scones), sandwiches (including my favourite, the club sandwich), toasties, and when they have gluten free wraps, a version of their Gyros wrap. The portions are generous, and the food is scrummy! If you require alternative milk, they can provide you with oat and soya milk, as well as decaf tea or coffee. Afternoon Teas & cake are served on pretty chinaware, and make for a very pleasant spot for a relaxing drink. They also make a wide range of milkshakes and smoothies, which always proves popular, with kids and adults alike. Service Penny and the team are excellent hosts, always friendly, and as I mentioned, always trying to help if they can. Please note, due to the size of the preparation area & the kitchen, it can take a while to get you food, especially if they have a lot of milkshakes or smoothies to make; however, it is usually not egregious. Atmosphere Shanicatti prides itself on its homely feel, reassuringly familiar and comfortable. Being just off of the High Street, it is close to the shops, yet it isn’t so noisy. On hot days, you can sit outside, taking advantage of the tables placed in the sheltered area, in front of the cafe. Final Thoughts As you can tell by the review, I love this place. It is my favourite cafe, and despite the small, humble looking exterior, one of my favourite places to get food. Long may Shanicatti continue! Updated: 24th August, 2025

Dropped in on a Friday night for the Greek Gyros food night. All the staff are great and the food was fantastic. Will be taking the team next week for a Christmas treat. If you haven't tried this wonderful cafe then you are missing out. Keep up the good work everyone x.
